Practical considerations aside, such as having a school bookstore order
minimum numbers of two similar books, if the class was large enough,
having at least two editions would give perceptive minds the abiding
clue that there is NO, can be no, definitive text, and that hermeneutics
is in the mind of the beholder... I know in my own studies practical &
theoretical, in many pursuits of disparate knowledge & experience, just
knowing that if only one has the motivation or incentive, complacency is
always compromise- this has real import in such cases where a second
opinion, such as medical or legal, is in itself decisive, or in leaving
a Sonnet under the illusion one has understood it. This is THE reason
Shakespeare is so interesting, there being no bottom, no end to
stimulating the sentient... "Let Be be finale of seem." To instill in
minds under development, in other words all of us still alive, that they
can contain Shakespeare is to have them hopefully, if not eventually,
one day dismiss such a teacher as sophomoric and naive.
