Subject: Online Shakespeare Concordance: Open Source Shakespeare

Hello, all --

There was some talk a couple of weeks ago regarding the lack of an
online, freely available Shakespeare concordance. I am pleased to
announce that the Open Source Shakespeare project now includes a
concordance of all word forms found in the complete works. (For this
purpose, I consider a "word form" to be any variation of a word.) Here
are a few things to note:

+ All word forms are listed alphabetically, and you can scroll through
all the words by letter;

+ You can search for an exact word form, the start of a word form, or
any part of a word form;

+ Hyphenated words such as "ill-beseeming" are considered a unique word
form;

+ Same deal for contracted words such as "ne'er"; and

+ The OSS parser uses data from a stemming algorithm to determine word
relationships. In other words, it's smart enough to know that "work",
"works", and "working" are related to each other and you can view those
word forms, too.

The concordance is here:

As always, I welcome constructive criticism at

some of you will notice that I have already incorporated your
suggestions. I have not yet released this publicly because I wanted to
solicit comments from SHAKSPER first.

Regards,
Eric Johnson
