Comment: SHK 14.2474 Shakespeare for Kids
Dear Fran Helphinstine,
Fun? How can Macbeth or Hamlet, plays concerned with murder, tyranny,
guilt and madness, be reasonably presented as 'fun'? At the very least,
the 'Shakespeare Can Be Fun' project suggests a commitment to the glad
suppression of the critical faculties that is sentimentality's surest
sign. No wonder children (sorry, 'kids') love them. They're probably
written in rhyming couplets.
