Susan St. John tells us that

'Shakespeare's language IS fun: discovering the hidden meanings, and
putting together the textual clues . . . this is all fun.'

This is what the language of the 'Shakespeare Can be Fun' books is like:

'The sons of the king had no time to grieve
For they were getting ready to leave.
They whispered their plans in secret fear
Worried that someone might overhear."
(Macbeth)

"Meanwhile King Claudius was still uptight.
The cause of Hamlet's madness had not come to light"
(Hamlet)

Susan's evident enthusiasm for such subtleties is commendable. I have
to report that they continue to elude me.
