Gabriel Egan' assertion regarding the connection Aretino- Romano is
confirmed and largely discussed by Paul Larivaille in his essay "Sulla
datazione dei 'sonetti lussuriosi'", in AA.VV., Pietro Aretino nel
Cinquecentenario della nascita, Salerno Editrice, Roma, 1995, t. II, pp.
599- 617. Maria Concolato

Gabriel Egan may well be correct -- others say the same -- that Giulio
Roman's I modi (The Positions) were drawn before Aretino wrote his
accompanying sonnets. The place to check is Taking Positions: On the
Erotic in Renaissance Culture, by Bette Talvacchia -- with pictures.
