No one seems to have mentioned the likely (actor's) reason for tossing a
purse as a tip: have you ever tried untying and opening a purse and
ferreting around for coins to give while saying lines?

Yes, Feste tells us that he has a house "by" (i.e., nearby) the church.
I guess there's only one church in Illyria.
