Ok, not really a Shakespeare topic, but it struck a nerve in me. There
is absolutely nothing worse than going to a meeting (of any kind) and
having someone READ YOU THE SLIDES they have prepared. Presumably, I am
capable of reading for myself. If I wanted a "meeting on tape" I would
likely ask for a much better reader!

Whenever I put together a meeting or a presentation, I make a point of
ensuring the bullets act as way-points to keep my discussion focused and
moving forward. If there are any professors, business leaders, or
presenters of any kind who are reading this post and put presentations
together, PLEASE decide if you are there to read to us or are you there
to make an informed presentation? If it is the former, just send me the
file and take a public speaking class. If it is the latter, I am much
more apt to actually listen to what you are saying!

No. They are doing it at all times of day.

When I used to provide technical support for humanities faculty at UCLA,
I was constantly bombarded with requests to help instructors produce
PowerPoint materials. In most cases, far too much time was spent dealing
with the software as software, and far too little with the actual
material being presented.

PowerPoint and similar packages do have some good uses, and can be a
very powerful instructional tools...but it takes a comparable amount of
time to learn the rhetoric of multimedia (if you will) as it does to
learn how to write well, or to speak well.
