Subject: "About Shakespeare" Radio Series
Some of you may be interested in a series of half hour radio broadcasts
on Shakespeare called "About Shakespeare." The series is produced by
KBYU-FM, located in Utah, so unless you're in Utah you'll need to listen
via the Internet at http://kbyufm.org/streaming/
The discussions are broadcast every Friday 6:30pm MDT and rebroadcast
Saturdays at 4:30pm MDT.
The first in the series is already past--Prof. Brandie Siegfried's
discussion titled "Screening the Bard: Cinematic Fidelity to
Shakespeare" was broadcast on April 2 and 3. You'll hear me in two of
the upcoming discussions--on April 16/17 and May 28/29. The series
continues through June 26, but only the next eight programs have been
announced. They are as follows:
"Wise Laughter: How Shakespeare Marries Meaning and Merriment" with John
Tanner, BYU Department of English. April 9 and 10
"Child Brides, Arranged Marriages, and Brutal Fathers: Misconceptions
about Family in Shakespeare" with Bruce Young, BYU Department of
English. April 16 and 17
"Shakespeare on Stage . . . Minus the Actors" with Rory Scanlon, BYU
Department of Theatre and Media Arts. April 23 and 24
"Times, How They've Changed!: Shakespeare Lands in the Twenty-First
Century" with Gary Taylor, Editor of the complete works of Shakespeare,
Oxford edition, 1986. April 30 and May 1
"Leave Your Reverence at the Door: An Elizabethan Afternoon at the
Theatre" with Chris Clark, UVSC Department of Theatre. May 7 and 8
"Shakespeare on Canvas: Dramatic Moments Frozen in Time" with Art
Bassett, BYU Department of Humanities, Classics, and Comparative
Literature, emeritus faculty. Friday, May 14 and 15
"Dramas of Atonement: Shakespeare's Last Plays" with John Tanner, BYU
Department of English. May 21 and 22
"Are There Happy Families in Shakespeare?" with Bruce Young, BYU
Department of English. May 28 and 29
I think you'll be pleased by the quality of the broadcasts.
Bruce Young
