Subject: New Thread: Hamlet in Other Plays?
For my advanced playwriting class, I would like my students to examine
how a story can be retold for the stage in different ways. I am
wondering if there has been one play by Shakespeare that has most
frequently been retold, either directly or peripherally, by other
writers *for the stage* (novels don't count)? Off the top of my head I
come up with Romeo & Juliet / West Side Story; Taming of the Shrew /
Kiss Me Kate; and Hamlet / Rosencranz and Guildentern are Dead (and
possibly, very peripherally, "I Hate Hamlet"). Is there any one play
that has multiple retellings, re-imaginings?
