Subject: 15.1095 Hamlet in Other Plays?

Hi everybody,

On the peripheral side, the Disney movie The Lion King (getting lots of
play here with my three year old) has clear lines of narrative debt to
Hamlet. I know that Mike Field specified the stage, but the Lion King
has subsequently transmogrified into a successful stage musical.

Michael Dobson's fabulous book: The Making of the National Poet:
Shakespeare, Adaptation and Authorship, 1660-1769 (Oxford, 1992) might
also be useful. (Mike, as I write this the book is on the shelf in the
Eisenhower stacks at JHU.)

And if you open the door to movies that don't wind up on stage... oh boy
what a McGee's closet.

Best,
Brad
