Agreed. If the goal is for an American actress, perhaps Reese
Witherspoon (who was competent in Importance of Being Earnest, the only
film I've seen her in which she was not asked to play a contemporary
role) or Julia Stiles, who was a fairly good Ophelia in the Almareyda
Hamlet, and who has an interest in literary roles.

Agreed. T&C is a play which should have had a big screen treatment
already. Other than a pair of BBC stagings, I can think of no adaptations.
