Stefan,

I've always been fond of Gerlad Hammond's _The Reader and Shakespeare's
Young Man_

I am delighted to give my thoughts on learning about the sonnets. The
book of Q is excellent I thought, and I found that Helen Vendler's book
laid them out very well, and explained each adequately. It did not give
much context or background, but certainly helped with a basic
understanding of each. Little philosophizing. A fine introduction.

Stefan, and others who enjoy the sonnets, might be interested in the
'Sonnet of the Week' discussions which take place on the internet news group

humanities.lit.authors.shakespeare

We are currently up to Sonnet 29.

As might be expected on a public newsgroup, comments on the sonnets are
quite varied, but it's generally an interesting exercise. All are
welcome to contribute their thoughts.
