Subject: Romeo and Juliet in Spiderman 2
The play is briefly referenced in a shot of books Peter Parker is
reading. The Signet edition of R and J is on the top of the pile.
Parker is reading (aloud) from The Song of Hiawatha. The Wasteland is
also mentioned by Doc Oc (before he becomes a villain), whose wife was
an English major. Oc tells Parker that poetry is the way to a woman's
heart. The film does not follow the narrative of R and J. Brief moments
of a production of The Importance of Earnest are seen because Mary Jane
plays the lead. The film, which I enjoyed immensely, is not exactly
Wildean either.
