Subject: Most Popular Shakespeare Plays
In Al Pacino's Looking for Richard, Frederic Kimball makes the
outrageous claim that Richard III is the most popular of Shakespeare's
plays, performed even more frequently than Hamlet! Whether this is
hyperbole for the sake of the film or a revelation of ignorance, I don't
know, but I am wondering where I can find information about the most
popular/frequently performed of Shakespeare's plays during the last
10-20 years. I am teaching Pacino's film in my "Shakespeare and Film"
course this fall, and would like to be armed with accurate information.
