I found the poem quoted (I think in its entirety) in connection with a
memorial for a faculty member at the University of Texas. The text that
prefaces the poem claims that the poem appears in the autobiography of
Dr. Hans Zinnser-who he is, I'm not sure. But perhaps that will help
