In his call for essays on the Renaissance English horse, Kevin De
Ornellas writes:
"Throughout, the horse's head and face must always loom large in every
essay."
But given London's incredible sewage problems, the other end of the
horse must have loomed large in the noses, if not the eyes, of sixteenth
and seventeenth century Londoners.
