Comment: Re: SHK 16.0101 It's Time for Another Meta-Discussion

This discussion has primarily dealt with technology. We seem to agree
that the mailing list works quite well, and that little if any change
needs to be done to it.

Another issue that has been less discussed. We know that Hardy Cook
puts much time, effort, and love into SHAKSPER. And we get intimations
that he has a life outside SHAKSPER.

What can be done to make editing SHAKSPER less onerous for him?

What does he do that only he can do? How could we save an hour or so a
day of his time? Could trusted lieutenants vet the incoming mail for
him, and at least put together the threads, or something like that?
Could someone else deal with membership issues?

[Editor's Note: Thanks for the questions. Actually, it appears that
several years of health issues I have had appear to be resolved and I am
adjusting to my new family situation. I will think of anything that I
might be able to delegate, but for now I think I have things under
control. There are small things folks could do, such as signing messages
if your name does not appear in the 'From:' line; editing rather than
simply forwarding reviews of productions, books, and so on; deleting the
contents of the digest you are replying to rather than just sending me
the content and requiring me to remove it. If I can think of other
things, I will send a separate message.]

I don't know if it fully fits the bill, but you might look into using
"Slashcode" <http://slashcode.com>, the engine that runs
http://slashdot.org. I believe it allows for submissions to be approved
before posting, then posted to a main webpage.

Contents can be viewed as a standard webpage, as an email digest or
through RSS, combining some of the more useful features of webpages,
blogs and mailing lists.
