Sorry, I wasn't trying to evade it. I thought the Holinshed passage
made it abundantly clear where WS got his 'Non nobis' and 'Te deum'
from. All this discussion about the difference between
Hebrew-Protestant and Greek-Latin psalm-numbering is fascinating but
surely irrelevant if Holinshed tells us that Henry V commanded his
soldiers to genuflect at the words "Non nobis" and, immediately after
this, ordered the 'Te deum' to be sung.
John Briggs launched this threadlet by saying that because Shakespeare
mentions 'Non nobis' and 'Te deum' (rather than 'In exitu de Aegypto'
and 'Te deum'), this implies an Anglican bias. I expect this is reading
far too much into a line WS probably inserted without a second thought
from his source.
