Agreed.  I offered it as a conjecture accompanied by a query as to
whether it had occurred to anyone else.  The respect due to a copytext
should make any editor reluctant to substitute a reading without good
evidence that the substitute is the actual authorial intention.  As
Theobald would have it, the goal is restoration not revision (even if
the editor's version is better).  But I do think the conjecture is
worthy of consideration.
