Subject: Orson Welles Merchant of Venice Footage in Criterion F for Fake

There is some footage from the film (Act One of the play) in the
documentary on disc two entitled "One Man Band." Welles plays Shylock.
The film was finished, but stolen, according to Oya Kodar, who stars
in the documentary and co-directs (she is also in F for Fake and was
Welles' companion the last 20 years of his life). There is also a
sequence with Welles in a desert at sunset giving Shylock's "hath not a
Jew eyes. . ." speech. In The Merchant of Venice film, Welles uses an
Eastern European / Yiddish accent. In the desert speech, he uses his
unaccented voice. The documentary is excellent and often very moving.
The DVD edition of F for Fake is another Criterion gem.
