Subject: Romance Question
Dear Shakespeareans,
I am researching ties between Shakespeare's history plays and romance,
and I was wondering if any of you know of the best scholarship to turn
to for the area of romance. I tend to have more experience on the
historical side and less on the romance side. The romances I'm using for
primary sources are Lodge's Rosalind and Greene's Pandosto. I have gone
to Northrope Frye, Fredrick Jameson, and have read parts of David
Quint's Epic and Empire, as well as dozens of articles, but I'm
wondering if any of you out there know of ideal sources that I'm missing
that might be more current. I'm not working on Shakespeare's romances,
themselves, although I can find tons of information on them. I'm finding
it more difficult to pin down romance generically, which seems to be
everyone's problem in general.
I'm trying to write my dissertation 2200 miles away from my school (due
to my husband's good fortune of landing a job in California), so it's
tough to get a lot of response from my faculty mentors. Even with the
advancements in communications that we have, I fear
out-of-sight-out-of-mind attitudes still apply. Any help you can offer
would be much appreciated. Off list responses are welcome!
Thank you,
Marcia Eppich-Harris
