Cruise and Nicole Kidman also took two years out of their very
profitable careers to work on Stanley Kubrick's _Eyes Wide Shut_. The
fact that the film was generally regarded as a disappointment -- in
spite of their performances -- should not detract from their willingness
to take a large financial sacrifice to work with one of the most
important and demanding directors around.
