Subject: An International Database of Shakespeare on Film, Television
and Radio

This is my first posting on SHAKSPER. It is to let you know that my
organisation, the British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC), is
about to undertake a three-year research project, funded by the Arts and
Humanities Research Council, to create an online international database
of Shakespeare on film, television and radio. The aim is to create the
most comprehensive such resource yet attempted (some 4,000 entries are
planned), with up-to-date distribution information (for UK and USA)
which will be maintained and updated post-project by the BUFVC.

I will post further details of this project to SHAKSPER as it develops.
We are now advertising for what we are calling a Broadcast Researcher;
someone to research television and particularly radio programmes based
on Shakespeare's works or about Shakespeare. The Broadcast Researcher
will work alongside a Senior Researcher, who will be Olwen Terris, who
some of you may know as the co-editor (with myself) of the book "Walking
Shadows: Shakespeare in the National Film and Television Archive",
published in 1994. I am heading the project. For further details of the
post, please visit http://www.bufvc.ac.uk/vacancies. The closing date is
23 September.
