The portrait of Southampton in the tower shows the man with his
love-lock hair. http://ladysarafina.home.att.net/wriothesley.JPG I have
also read that the bows on his glove cuffs were called lovelocks.

Following Jim Fitzmaurice's suggestion, I found a way to see a picture
of a lovelock. Go to The Huntington Art Collections Catalogue at
http://emuseum.huntington.org/code/emuseum.asp Enter "lovelock" into the
search function, and click to enlarge the portrait that appears. I also
appreciate the reference to Prynne sent to the list.
Cheers,
Jack Heller
