Subject: Hamlet Photograph
I am anxious to locate a copy of the 1864 photograph of Henry Irving as
Hamlet. This recorded his tableau vivant appearance in Manchester, in
which he appeared in imitation of John Philip Kemble as Hamlet. He is
depicted full length, facing left. He wears a long black cloak and a
plumed bonnet. He is holding a skull. The photograph was reproduced in
Laurence Irving's HENRY IRVING, THE ACTOR AND HIS WORLD. The Theatre
Museum in London, which has a certain amount of Laurence Irving's
archive of materials on his grandfather, does not have this photograph.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Alan R. Young
