Subject: Arranging Travel Courses

Colleagues:

This post is less about an academic question than about arranging an
academic endeavor. I have never conducted a course that involves
extensive travel before, but I would like to lead one in May 2007 for my
institution's focusing on the Stratford and Shaw Festivals in Ontario,
Canada. In Stratford, I would probably house the group at the nursing
college. I'm not sure whether we would travel back and forth from there
to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, or whether there would be similar
housing available in that area.

I know very little about arranging such a course, but I think I would
plan to see four plays per festival, to arrange tours similar to the
Festival Theater tour in Stratford, if possible to arrange for visits
with directors or performers (or to attend those conversations when they
are available to the public). I would also want 1-2 hours per day of
discussing the play texts and performances. I think we would spend about
12 days in Ontario.

This is a very general request: I can use as much advice as anyone wants
to offer on how such trips are arranged and kept exciting and efficient
for the students. Replies offlist are welcomed.
