"Unmasquing Prince Henry" (extended)
It is well known that Henry, Prince of Wales was central to the Stuart
court masque and much of London's civic pageantry toward the end of the
first decade of James I. Consequently, critical interest in Henry's
performance of majesty is too frequently confined to a select few
authors and literary modes. Papers unmasquing Prince Henry are sought
for a panel to be proposed for The Sixteenth Century Studies Conference
in Salt Lake City, UT, October 26-9, 2006. Interdisciplinary approaches
examining Henry and his court in terms of childhood and family life,
political or social history, patronage, sport and recreation, religious
practice, fashion and portraiture, architecture and gardening, science
and technology, adventuring and colonization, and the prince's autopsy
and funeral are especially welcome. Please send brief abstracts or
detailed enquiries to
