Ah! for certitude.  How about casting girls as Shakespeare's boys?  I 
think Ellen Terry, both in her youth, and again in her age, played 
Mamillius.

And I suppose the productions before 1661 also didn't work?  Alas, for His 
Majesty's Servants.
