Subject: Passion in Pieces
I have recently teamed up with Recentwork's producer Debbie Gray with the
intention of putting "Passion in Pieces" into production. Debbie is a
media lawyer turned producer who has worked in film and television
including four years with the BBC. The idea is to produce 20 short films
each based on a single Sonnet but dramatising the original relationships
with modern people in modern London. The soundtrack will have especially
written music as well as the original Sonnet spoken by a celebrity actor.
He will also take the lead role.
What we would like to achieve is a learning package that uses the films
but also reinforced with filmed interviews by Shakespeare luminaries from
the UK and the US - we would also like to get people from Shakespeare
theatre and film. These interviews would be a detailed analysis of each
poem. We would like to know if anyone on the list would like to offer
their services as an Education Editor to vet the methods of delivering the
package to the target audience (18 and above - colleges and further
education). This may be a book/DVDs pack or online learning via
subscription - even video podcasting. The Education Editor would formulate
and script the suggested lesson plan for each Sonnet. There is also the
possibility of the whole project being shown on TV.
Also if anyone feels that they would like to be interviewed to analyse
some of the Sonnets please let me know. Fees would be payable, negotiated
with the producer, for all contributions.
"Passion in Pieces" will not be 'Sam Small's view of the Sonnets'.
However, the films alone will be a personal statement to fire the
imagination of the viewer. It would be most illuminating if the project
as a whole were to be an aggregate of many fine opinions very often found
on this list.
We do not subscribe to autobiographical or anti-autobiographical views.
Neither to we support single characters or multiple characters. Nor
homosexual/heterosexual. Nor Southampton or anti-Southampton. All
opinions are welcome and necessary.
