Subject: RSC Appeal to Educators
The Royal Shakespeare Company says that "boring" lessons are putting
youngsters in England off Shakespeare's work for life. I'd have thought
the mind-numbing delusions and desperate self-aggrandizement in which
actors currently traffic have an equally large burden to bear.

Comment: Re: SHK 17.0797 RSC Appeal to Educators
It's sad that the RSC's Director of Learning's narrow-mindedness can see
no alternatives apart from the printed word and live performance,
thereby excising all the fine television and film work that so many
children see, enjoy and learn from. I am, of course, the last person to
want to discourage any steps to take good live performances to every
corner of the globe (even including UK schools) but, as I prepare to
teach my 'Shakespeare and Film' class tomorrow, I think how
old-fashioned the RSC seems in Maria Evans' guise.
