Dear Carol and others,
Charlecote is very much worth a visit for any list members who find
themselves in Stratford with a car. (Cab fare to C'cote and back is
liable to run ca. 30 quid.) The house and grounds were extensively
revised in the mid-19th-C., however, so most of what you see is
Victorian neo-Elizabethan, though very good of its kind. The great
unreconstructed Elizabethan mansion in the neighborhood, Compton
Wynyates, is unfortunately not open to the public.
