I look forward to seeing this production in Stratford at the Swan.
One correction to the article though:
"a man whose sufferings have evoked compassion in audiences since the
actor Henry Irving rescued him from ugly rapacity in the late 19th century".
Actually, Charles Macklin was the first actor that we can determine
played Shylock for sympathy - in 1741, well before Irving and an
influence on Garrick. "This is the Jew that Shakespeare drew" and all that.
