I am curious as to what John Webb means by the term, "militant feminist."

I am no fan of Germaine Greer but I find the idea intriguing that WS
knew women well and showed them in a loving way. As for happy
marriages, drama is based on conflict -- Oedipus .... Looking forward to
seeing the book.

The Guardian review informs us that Charles Nicholl's 'The Lodger:
Shakespeare on Silver Street' is to be published by Allen Lane in November.

Sounds good. Nicholl's book on Marlowe's murder (The Reckoning) was
excellent.

There is also a violently hostile review by Peter Conrad in the
*Observer* for 2 September. It should be accessible through the
*Guardian *website.
