Subject: 2007 Western Conference of British Studies
The call for papers for the 2007 Western Conference on British Studies
(WCBS) annual meeting on November 1-3, 2007, in Albuquerque, New Mexico,
which was issued earlier has now been extended to JUNE 18, 2007.
The meeting will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We solicit proposals for panels on England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales,
and the British Empire broadly defined. Our interests range from the
medieval to the modern, and we welcome participation by historians,
literary critics, economists, sociologists, art historians, and scholars
in other allied disciplines. We invite panel proposals treating selected
themes, methodology and pedagogy, as well as round table discussion of
topical work. North American scholars, international scholars, and
graduate students are all encouraged to submit proposals to the program
chair of the WCBS. Proposals for entire panels on a given theme will be
given priority, although individual paper proposals will also be
considered if several of them can be assembled to create a viable panel.
The WCBS is committed to the principles of ensuring the broadest
possible participation of scholars of all facets of British studies.
We are pleased to announce that the plenary speaker at the conference
will be Professor Mrinalini Sinha of Penn State University.
Proposals for both complete sessions and individual papers will be
accepted. Proposals for panels should include the following: a list
containing paper titles, names and contact information for each
panelist; a statement of the overall purpose and goals of the panel; a
200-300 word abstract for each paper to be read; and a one or two page
C.V. for all participants. Proposals for individual papers should
include name and contact information, as well as the paper abstract and
brief C.V.
The WCBS welcomes papers from advanced graduate students and awards a
$500 prize for the best graduate student paper presented at the conference.
For further information about the WCBS, go to: http://www.wcbs.org.
To be considered, all proposals must be received by the Program
Committee by Friday, April 27th, 2006. You may e-mail your materials
