Firstly, I should thank Mr. Weller for honoring PlayShakespeare.com with
a visit. Secondly, I should say that the glossary on our site is a work
in progress. The component which enables this functionality is being
totally rewritten by our web developer (due to some newly- discovered
limitations), which has halted the entry of more glossary items as well
as any adjustments to the existing items. This accounts for the small
number of items (a few hundred at the moment). But once development is
complete (another week or two), we aim to have upwards of 5000+ items
over the coming weeks, at which time more variations on existing items
will be added.
While our site is by no means perfect, we welcome criticism and feedback
in order to improve. But if Mr. Weller (or anyone else on this list) has
any issues or observations, it would appreciated if they were shared in
the forum. Snide remarks like "Enough said, I think." are only weak
attempts at showing superiority. Feel free to head over to the forums
and share your opinions or criticisms.
Speaking of superiority, we actually feel we have a superior system than
anything on the internet for reading Shakespeare's texts. The reader
merely rolls over the word they don't understand and the glossary
appears. No line numbers. No extra pages. No popups. No unnecessary
clicks and it's unobtrusive to the reader. And when we complete
development, the new version will have a few other tricks as well.
Well-experienced Shakespeareans won't have a great deal of use for this
feature, but they don't account for a major portion of the 1 million
hits we've had since our April 23, 2007, launch.
Thank you, again. I look forward to your positive suggestions and
engaging debate! :)
