Comment: Re: SHK 19.0647 Heroes
I do not believe that Horatio passes any of the universal adventure or
transformative tests that Joseph Campbell sets forth for the hero in his
monumental book "The Hero With A Thousand Faces". Hamlet, however, does make 3
appearances in Campbell's book. The play starts right off with the first stage
of the mythological journey "the call to adventure" and continues on to meet all
of the "adventures of the hero".
The Prince is a hero right up there with Aeneas, Prometheus, and Jason!
Best,
Elliott H. Stone
