Subject: Problems with SPAM

Dear SHAKSPEReans,

I sent the message below out on Thursday.

I have had many helpful responses, but I am still working on the problem and
others that seem to appear out of nowhere.

It appears that SHAKSPER was blacklisted falsely by Symantec Brightmail,
Spamcop, IronPort, and a few others recently as a spammer.

It would help if each of you would to inform your Service Provider, university,
or similar service that SHAKSPER -- 12.101.12.90 -- is an academic listserv and
not a SPAMMER. Adding, if you know how to, SHAKSPER, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.,
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and 12.101.12.90 to your Safe Senders list, your Whitelist,
would also help.

I have added backed 34 members who were recently dropped because of overzealous
anti-spamware. If you know of anyone who used to receive SHAKSPER mailings and
is no longer getting them, please have those persons contact me at either or all
of these addresses -- This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.,
and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. -- try to take care of those problems.

My apologies, but this matter is causing me much, much more work than I can
spare or want.

Best wishes,
Hardy

Folks,

I sat down a few hours ago to wade through the 1,200 messages (98% being SPAM
I receive) that had collected in the Editor's Inbox since I sent out digests on
Tuesday.

What I found a third of the way through was daily error monitoring report,
containing notices that 124 members were being monitored because the digests I
sent were returned for being blocked because the member's software apparently
identified my messages as SPAM.

Going through the list -- Say anything you wanna, I have heard it all -- I
find that appears that SHAKSPER is being blacklisted by AT&T (the company I
use to distribute SHAKSPER's messages), Symantec, Hotmail, MSN, various
universities, and what looks like the entire the state of Israel -- And indeed
there
will be time -- so once again I start responding to as many of these as I am
able . .
.

Right now, I feel as I do at those times when an assignment is due and a third
of the class does not show, and I announce that I would rather they turn they
papers in late and come to class than not come to class but my announcement is
for the students who are not there . . . well, you get the idea.

I have no idea why SHAKSPER keeps getting blacklisted. I can find nothing in
the logs that would indicate that the server is compromised. What I do know is
that there are members that I keep for a few weeks and then that get lost by my
server's being blocked as I see my membership numbers shrinking and shrinking.

So if there is anyone out there who knows somebody or is somebody who might
have an idea of what I might do to stop this frustrating problem, please let me
know.
