Subject: Frame Story for _Taming of the Shrew_?

What are the critically most-accepted theories concerning the inclusion
of the "induction" in _Shrew_? I'm finding that the frame story is one
that was around in the Middle Ages, but not immediately any mention of
Shakespeare's purposes in including it.

What's the purpose of the frame story?

(I'm in a third-world country where there aren't any libraries -- so
online resources would be especially helpful.)
