Subject: Shakespeare the Pikeman
A question on behalf of my friend and colleague, the historian Charles Carleton, about a source for a detail about Shakespeare.
Charles says that a reader of his current ms. remembers a listing in the PRO State Papers of Shakespeare as a militia pikeman, but the reader cannot remember the specific reference.
Could any of the members of SHAKSPER supply the reference and/or speak to its significance?
Many thanks,
