When I joined Twitter, I tried tweeting sonnets. I found it unsatisfactory -- not only can you only tweet a quatrain at a time, but Twitter -- and Facebook as well, unless I'm doing something wrong -- absolutely destroys the line arrangement, cramming it all into paragraph form.
As far as Facebook is concerned, there is a way to cheat it. Although status updates on Facebook do not allow for hard returns, if you're posting a link you can add all the hard returns you like.
