Subscribers:
Sorry for the long interruption; as I have warned, there will be many of these the
next four or five weeks. One unanticipated problem that took a while to solve
involved my e-mail program. I did my best and recover 3 or 4 messages for the list
but am afraid some submissions might have been lost. If you do not see, a message
you sent in today's mailings, please re-send it and accept my apologies.
Let me remind everyone that clearly identifying your submissions to the list with
something like "FOR SHAKSPER" or "FOR HARDY" for private messages to me will help me
in not overlooking your messages and inadvertently deleting your submission with the
hundreds and hundreds of SPAMs I receive a day.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Hardy

Subject: FOR SHAKSPER: Request from Your Editor
Dear SHAKSPER Subscribers:
Despite my allegiance to my Boomer Generation and my mindset that I am somehow
or other still in my 20s --
"People try to put us d-d-d-d-d-d-down . . . Just because we get around . . .
Things they do look awful c-c-c-c-cold . . . I hope I die before I get old"
(Naaaaay, not this last sentiment, especially since I'm there already) --
ANYWAY, some of the time I find myself feeling . . . "What a drag it is getting
old" -- as I am finding that some of my body parts are wearing out.
In a couple of weeks, I am scheduled for my first cataract surgery and am amazed
over the past six months at how much closer I have had to lean into my computer
screen to read what's on it.
I am excited at the prospect of regaining something approaching my vision as I
had come to know it, but until then and during the recovery period and probably
for sometime after I am asking a favor of subscribers.
The combination of my clouding vision and the incredible number of spams I
receive has lead to my inadvertently deleting an increasing number of the
messages that have been sent for distribution to the list members.
I had an intuitive flash that I might be better able to manage messages to the
list if they were more clearly visible, so if I may indulge list members let me
make the following request.
To better increase the chances that I will not delete messages unintentionally,
I am requesting that members include something like "FOR HARDY" or "FOR
SHAKSPER" at the beginning of the subject line as I have done above.
I intent this not as a requirement for publication but more along the lines of
being a suggestion by or a courtesy to your aging editor.
Please excuse, what I am sure that many will consider a waste of their time, but
I do hope that my attempt at self-deprecating humor will mitigate any ill will
resulting or extra keystrokes you might make because of my embarrassing request.
Thanks,
Hardy
