The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 21.0230 Thursday, 10 June 2010
From: Lynn Brenner <
Joanna Anderson, a long-time English teacher and dedicated Shakespeare Society member, will walk Scotland's 200 mile Cape Wrath Trail from July 8th to July 23rd to raise money for the Society's 'Shakespeare in Schools' program.
All donations, however small, are heartily welcome.
This wonderful program sends professional actors and teaching artists into more than 34 public schools in New York City, and now reaches over 3,000 students, many of whom have previously had little or no exposure to arts in education. Its crown jewel is the Hunts Point Children's Shakespeare Ensemble, in which 5th, 6th, and 7th graders from four Bronx schools in the nation's poorest Congressional district perform one of Shakespeare's plays every year, after nine months of study and rehearsal. This year, it was 'As You Like It'.
