Subject: Historical Thesaurus to be Incorporated in OED Online
OUP has announced that the 4,000-page Historical Thesaurus of the OED
(http://www.oup.com/online/ht/) that was published last year at $395 will be
incorporated into OED Online when it is relaunched in December. No change to
subscription fees, but those who cite the OED may want to note this: "The homepage
will remain at www.oed.com; all other page urls will change." Details at
http://www.oed.com/news/relaunchfaqs.html and http://www.oed.com/news/letter.html
BTW the chief editor of the OED selects a useful example:
This means, for instance, that a user viewing the entry for halberd (the early
modern weapon combining a spear and a battle-axe) can click to reach the related
entries langue de boeuf, glaive, budge, poleaxe, ox-tongue, and partisan? to list
only those first recorded between 1450 and 1611.
First Citizen: Clubs, bills, and partisans! strike! beat them down!
Down with the Capulets! down with the Montagues! --R&J 1.1
Cheers, Shakespeare partisans!
