Subject: Recommendations for Undergraduate Programs
Recommendations for Undergraduate Programs in English/Comparative Literature
Please allow me your editor's privilege of making a request I would normally
not permit.
My younger daughter, Rebecca, as surprising as it is to me as I am sure it
is to some who have met her over the years at various conferences, will be
entering her senior year in high school this fall.
Since she was four, she has accompanied me to the UK for many of my trips to
the International Shakespeare Conference. Influenced by these trips, she
announced when she was six or seven that she wanted to go to Oxford for
university. Now that reality has caught up with fantasy, she is looking
beyond this single choice.
Her first declaration of a desired career was as an Egyptologist.
However, during this past year Rebecca has decided, to my delight, that she
wants to major, because of her love of language, in English or Comparative
Literature. She is a highly skilled speaker and writer, and I could brag
about her for pages and pages but will not. I will say that her academic
credentials are stellar from a well-regarded Washington, DC, area private
school.
I am seeking recommendations for US/UK colleges and universities with
stimulating and challenging undergraduate programs in English and-or
Comparative Literature that I might recommend to this remarkable young lady.
I will consider all responses to this request as private mail to me. And I
thank anyone who responds in advance since my own plate is quite full these
coming months.
Thanks and best wishes,
Hardy
