Performances of Q1 Hamlet |
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 22.0022 Thursday, 27 January 2011

Subject: Performances of Q1 Hamlet
A new production of the Q1 text of Hamlet will be performed in Indianapolis on Feb 4, 5, 11, and 12. This
is being advertised as "Young Hamlet", because (as the Arden edition notes) the title character is
younger in Q1 than in the other texts; also, that title alerts audiences to the fact that this is an
unfamiliar version of the play.
Tickets can be purchased online at http://indyfringe.org/calendar/event/young-hamlet
This is, of course, not the first production of the Q1 version. But performances of it are relatively
rare. This production features a multiracial international cast, including American and British Equity
actors, working with students at IUPUI and experienced actors from the Indianapolis community. It also
draws upon the scholarly resources of the New Oxford Shakespeare team at IUPUI. There will be a talk-back
after every performance, giving audiences a chance to talk with actors and scholars about the show.
