I wrote amiss recently when I stated that Curt Tofteland is helping to start a Shakespeare Behind Bars type of program in Australia. Rather, he is working with a program already well-established. Here is that program's own story:

I might as well ask if anyone has surveyed the number of prison Shakespeare programs worldwide. I do recall an NPR segment last year about a production of R&J in a South African detention center. (I think it was a youth program.) I will also recommend the book released last year, Performing New Lives, a collection of essays edited by Jonathan Shaillor and Evelyn Ploumis-Devick.
