I don't wish to comment on the merits of Mark Alcamo's parallel between the Winchester Cathedral Round Table and Falstaff's "green fields", but I find the allusion to Shakespeare's quill fanning the sun, and turning it to ice, beguiling.
Yet the play rather fans the reputation of Henry V to a fire that far exceeds the enduring reputation of the man, just as his ink blackened that of Richard III beyond his. |
