Subject: Visiting Prague? Corpore Sana Dept.
For those attending the ISA WORLD CONGRESS (very soon!) I recommend the travel pages with readers suggestions found at the Guardian (UK) website. Aside from mouthwatering descriptions of restaurants and beer venues, there are many touring suggestions, caveats about Czech taxis (and suggestions for reliable English-speaking livery services), really low-cost accommodations, and places to see.
One of my favorite tips cites the Podoli swimming pool / health center, a short tram ride from the center of the city. Open from 6 am until almost 10 pm, there's a sauna, three heated pools, and even an associated but privately run spa onsite (hours from 7 am) with treats like a full massage for about $30.
There are several centrally located bike-rental places, the most interesting and least expensive is called OKOLO -- at roughly half the cost of other shops. (The others, however, offer guided bike tours around the city.)
I'll be arriving in Prague on Thursday, 14 July for guilt-free pre-conference touring. Happy to share references and/or meet for lunch etc. Remember that in the Czech Republic, beer is not only for breakfast.
