Subject: SHAKSPER -- Educational Music Videos
The "historyteachers" (sic), also known as "historyteacherz" (also sic), also known as "Mrs. B. and Mr. H.", also known as Amy Burvall and Herb Mahelona, are a couple of Hawaiian secondary-school teachers who are fast becoming international YouTube stars with their parodies of pop songs rewritten as short introductions to historic topics, and, occasionally, the arts. (Two of their big hits are "Black Death", to the tune of Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl", and "French Revolution" to the tune of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance".) By all accounts, they are very successful pedagogically. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbTLYAiorxs is only an introduction to Shakespeare, but I know they have a "Romeo & Juliet" in the works. Some of their other songs touch on Shakespearean matter, such as "Julius Caesar" and "Pharoahlicious", a brief life of Cleopatra VII. Their videos are aimed at teens and pre-teens, so they're only somewhat on-topic for SHAKSPER, but -- they make me smile.
