I just got (rather belatedly) the schedule of productions for Yale Repertory Theatre.
Hamlet is scheduled March 15-April 13 2013.
Star of this production is Paul Giamatti. Now I know he’s classically trained, having done his MFA at Yale School of Drama. And I know he’s done Shakespeare before, having seen him at Yale Rep doing Jaques probably 1993 or 94.
And certainly he’s both skilled and talented.
But somehow I cannot picture him as Hamlet. John Adams, sure. Hamlet? Not so much. I wondered how others viewed this particular casting. I am totally unaware of what “creative” perspective, if any, director (And Yale Rep Artistic Director) James Bundy will be bringing to the production. |
